Sunday School
Christian Education at St. Nicholas Church
Religious education is a very important ministry here at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church. Our parish operates a Church School Program beginning the first Sunday in October to the last Sunday in May. Religious educational classes are conducted for the youth of the parish from preschool through 12th grade. The students are excused from the Sunday Divine Liturgy after the reception of the Eucharist and the final blessing with the Chalice. Classes are held in the Educational Wing of our Fellowship Hall.
This program includes not only stimulating educational classes but also other activities: arts & crafts, music, games, parties, a Christmas Play, Egg Hunt at Easter, etc. At the conclusion of the school year a special dinner is held to honor the students of the First Confession Class as well as High School and College Graduates. The school also provides Camping Scholarships for the children to attend a weeko f summer camp at Camp Nazareth. Funds are raised from various activities held during the academic year.
Every Advent and Great Lenten liturgical seasons, the students, under the leadership of the pastor and their teachers has a charity project. Clothes and food have been collected and given to those of the area in need. Students are also encouraged to participate in the St. Nicholas Samaritan Outreach when able.
Adult Education Classes led by Fr. Timothy take place on a frequent basis as announced. A weekly on-line asynchronous Orthodox Bible Study Class is offered by our diocese which is led by Father Ken Bachofsky, professor of Sacred Scripture at Christ the Saviour Seminary.
